Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Hours: Anticipated 40 hours weekly

The kennel manager will drive business success by providing leadership for kennel activities and support for the day-to-day on-site staff. Successful candidates will work with minimal supervision and must be self-motivated and disciplined to accomplish tasks within prescribed timelines. 

Responsibilities: 

Front Desk Management/Customer Service and Scheduling 

○ Answer phones (expectation is to return calls within same business day received) 

○ Respond to emails (expectation is to respond to emails within same business day received) and back check emails 

○ Maintain schedule for daycares and overnight boarding 

○ Offer baths/nails/paw pad maintenance to all boarding customers 

○ Update all client and pet information within Software System and back check others’ work 

○ Present a professional and customer service centric attitude as the first impression of our kennel ○ Maintain contact/communication log for smooth transition between front desk workers 

○ Maintain neat and tidy work space at front desk 

○ Challenging customer interactions 

○ Communicate effectively with owners if health, or other issues, arise 

○ Prep deposits and scan to manager, take deposit to bank night-box every night 

 Kennel Management: 

○ Monitor overall health of dogs in residence: 

■ Shuffle based on personality if needed 

■ Watch for signs of illness and call kennel owner, animal owner, veterinarian as appropriate 

■ Take animals to veterinarian if warranted 

○ Be capable of running a ‘back office’ shift, maintain understanding of challenges to help with problem solving 

Employee Management 

○ Hiring and firing decisions, including possible performance reviews and recommendations for raises 

○ Watch for trends that provide training opportunities or modifications to kennel policy

○ Assist with training and maintaining consistency of policy applied with all front desk staff 

○ Adjust and develop kennel policy, as needed 

○ Assist in delegating proper balance between employees (i.e., back office/turnout/cleaning amongst various staff) 

○ Coordinate with assistant manager to ensure that all daily/weekly/monthly tasks are completed properly by all staff

 ○ Create and publish employee schedules, ensure adequate coverage during all shifts, call in on-call workers if needed 

○ Prepare payroll and notify Owner when ready to submit 

Business Management: 

○ Book-keeping in Quickbooks 

■ Enter payments 

■ Enter receivables 

■ Reconcile bank accounts 

○ Retrieve and open mail, notify owner of time sensitive communications 

○ Manage inventory; monitor supply levels, build online shopping cart for owner approval/purchase ○ Coordinating tradesman and necessary repairs 

○ Take ETC emergency after hours calls 

○ Updating official company documents (i.e., company handbook, employment policies, etc.) 

○ Creating and/or implementing marketing plans to drive additional business: 

■ coordinate with on-site staff to coordinate social media posts; expect one post per day 

■ attend community events, as able, to represent Pet’s Night Out 

○ Responsible for purchasing kennel supplies and managing inventory levels with help of assistant manager 

Qualified candidates must have prior experience with customer service and kennel work. Experience in management is a plus. Additionally, candidates should: 

● Be detail oriented 

● Have the ability to work independently and in a team environment 

● Be flexible as priorities shift 

● Be comfortable working on multiple tasks efficiently 

● Be adept at reading people (employees and customers) to encourage positive outcomes and diffuse problems quickly 

Education and Experience: Minimum requirements for this position are three years of relevant and successful work experience. Experience may be waived if an individual shows strong work ethic and willingness to learn and grow in this role. 

Effort and Working Conditions: Substantial telephone and computer usage is expected. Lifting of up to 50 pounds and frequent dog handling is required. 

Hours: This is a full time position, with anticipated 40 hours weekly. This role may require weekend, holiday, or on-call hours.  

Pay Scale: $18.00 - 20.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. This is an hourly position, employee will be expected to manage schedule and make responsible decisions related to overtime hours required responsibly, with minimal supervision and oversight. 

Benefits: Employee dogs stay for $5.00 per day or night, assuming availability. Maximum employee kennels at any given time is two. Peak holidays and busy periods may be unavailable for employee use. Employees may bring their own pets during their shifts for free daycare, assuming we have at least 2 open kennels for same-day paid client use.
