Golf Course Mechanic
General Nature of Work
The Golf Course Mechanic will be responsible for repairing and maintaining all turf maintenance equipment, including mowers, tractors, and the golf cart fleet for the golf course. Key duties include sharpening reels and bedknives, diagnosing gas/diesel/electric engine issues, managing preventative maintenance records, and ensuring equipment is in peak condition and safe for daily use.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Schedule and perform appropriate preventative maintenance work.
- Perform routine functions of maintenance and repairs of golf course/project equipment, tractors, riding mowers and hand mowers.
- Keep all mowing equipment operable and properly sharpened.
- Inspects, adjusts, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical defects in the many types of golf course maintenance equipment.
- Maintenance and repairs on hydraulic and electric components of equipment.
- Keep service records on all equipment and major repairs to facilitate historical evaluations.
- Maintain shop working area in neat, orderly fashion and observe working conditions in compliance with all appropriate safety and compliance laws.
- Work with Superintendent and Golf Maintenance Crew in training and safety of equipment with entire staff.
- Maintain appropriate inventory control.
- Ability to keep current with industry trends and training.
- Perform emergency repairs on the course.
- Additional duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in the repair of golf equipment.
- Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of golf course layout, rules, and etiquette.
- Knowledge of personal computers and ability to use word processing and database programs to maintain records as required.
SKILLS
- Skill in diagnosing defects in golf equipment.
- Skill in repairing vehicles.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in determining causes of operating errors.
ABILITIES
- Ability to plan and prioritize meeting county deadlines.
- Ability to prepare documents in response to complaints and inquiries.
- Ability to examine vehicle diagnostics for accuracy and completeness.
- Ability to effectively communicate with Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Maintenance Crew.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1-2 years of experience in equipment repair, preferably with turf machinery.
- Valid Driver’s License.

Work Environment: The work is typically performed in a shop or outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, fumes, heights, vibrations, electric currents, bright/dim light, toxic agents, disease, pathogenic substances, or animal attacks/bites, irritating chemicals, machinery with moving parts, and inclement weather. The work may require protective devices such as masks and gloves.
