Job Description
Our Facilities & Public Works Department has an immediate opening for a Roads & Grounds Crew member.  This position requires working on all road crew projects as assigned, involves manual labor, the use of hand tools, power tools, dump truck, tractor, and lawn equipment.  This position is physically demanding, and requires using your hands, standing, walking, bending or twisting, kneeling, crawling, and muscles to lift and pull.

GENERAL:  Subject to heavy workloads, sometimes working with deadlines, using power tools and heavy equipment, tree removal, flagging, manual labor.  Requires driving company vehicles, on ladders, lifting, etc.  Must abide by company Safety Policies.
 
DEFINITION: Variety of tasks involving construction, maintenance and repairs to roads, septic systems, parks maintenance, and operate equipment.  Perform preventative maintenance or repairs on all association property.

EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:  All CRRA common property, using power tools, hand tools, heavy equipment power saws, patch pot-holes, road striper, power washers, backhoe & other tools.

WORK HOURS/WORK WEEK: This description applies to full-time and part-time employees.  The workweek does not exceed 40 hours per week for full-time and 28 hours for part-time employees.  Shift schedules may vary dependent on weather condition.  The work schedules may be adjusted as required at the discretion of the manager as shifts are Monday – Thursday 7 am to 5 pm, or Tuesday – Friday 7 am to 5 pm.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Drive trucks, haul, stockpile dirt, gravel, salt, and blacktop, for street and construction repairs.
  • Patch roads and streets with hot and cold blacktop mix, resurface roads, grading roads, rolling roads, graveling roads.
  • Check culverts and shoulders, and clean debris.
  • Erect road signs in accordance with state requirements, install and repair new signs as necessary.
  • Operate power equipment including attachments, maintain and repair equipment in good operating condition.
  • Perform carpentry and masonry work in constructing and repairing streets, and roads.
  • Plow snow, remove snow, grading, salt and sand roads, as well as parking lots.
  • Pick up trash and debris, remove leaves in and around all common property.
  • Operate chain saw, removal and hauling trees, brush and stumps.  Mowing, and blowing to clear right of ways.
  • Other duties as assigned by Facilities & Public Works Manager
  • Making material list, obtaining quotes
  • Purchasing supplies as approved
  • Follow all safety policies and practices while performing duties
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Ongoing training, works directly under Facilities & Public Works Manager
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge to operate heavy equipment
Must have a working telephone and own transportation
Must have a valid driver’s license, CDL preferred
Must be physically able to perform the duties of the job
Must agree to background check and pass drug screen

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS:
High School graduate or GED preferred
Basic computer skills
Three + years’ experience in roads and heavy equipment operations

ALTERNATIVE QUALIFICATIONS:
 5+ years verifiable heavy equipment operator


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must possess a valid driver’s license, be accepted by the CRRA’s vehicular insurance company to drive CRRA vehicles, pass a criminal records background examination as well as submit to and pass a drug test. Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.  This position is non-contractual and at will.
