The Civil War That Ken Burns Missed
The Civil War that Ken Burns missed. "John C. Campbell once commented that more is known about Appalachia that is NOT true than any other place in the world. That holds especially so for the Civil War, which in the southern mountains truly was a civil war. This area was pretty much ignored, or stereotypes were assumned, until within less than a generation. This lecture will briefly cover the topic with most examples drawn from Fannin County."
Dr. Whittemore's goal is to identify, train, and motivate undergraduates to pursue the wide open field of the history of Appalachian Georgia. His greatest pleasure comes from traditional southern mountain old time music and dance.
