Event Description:
Jerry Taylor, Towns County’s official historian, returns as speaker for the May meeting of the Gilmer County Genealogical Society. The program ”Cherokee Heritage of Local Place Names” will explore the origin of various North Georgia locale’s names and their meanings as translated to English. In doing so, Mr. Taylor will explain in his uniquely entertaining way how those names are relevant to our ancestors’ origins. The meeting will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the Gilmer County Library. Fellowship will be at 1:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 2:00 p.m. The public is welcome, and we continue to encourage social distancing and the wearing of masks.
