Event Description:
The October combined meetings of the Gilmer County Genealogical Society and the Gilmer County Historical Society will be held on Saturday, October 15, at 2:00 p.m. in the lower level meeting room of the Gilmer County Library. The speaker for this meeting will be Leslie Thomas, current president of the GCHS and Georgia Trail of Tears Association. She will present the talk ”Finding Your Native American Ancestors.”
 
As a member and former/current president of the GaTOTA, Ms. Thomas often gets requests to help individuals in finding their Native American ancestry. Over her 22 years as a member of the Trail of Tears Association, she has presented speeches and seminars throughout Georgia to help people find their roots. Keeping up with the newest methods of research, she will share what she has found to help others as well as herself. The public is invited and admission is free.
