“Ellijay and Elsewhere – Paintings by Ed Cahill”

A solo exhibition featuring the talents of Ed Cahill

Gilmer Arts B.E.S.T. Visual Arts Series (Bringing Ellijay Sensational Talent) announces its 9th exhibition in the series with the opening of “Ellijay and Elsewhere – Paintings by Ed Cahill” on November 9, 2018, featuring the artwork of award-winning artist Ed Cahill.

The exhibition, hosted at Gilmer Arts, 207 Dalton Street in downtown Ellijay, runs through December 12, 2018.  Scenes from around Ellijay and the surrounding region will be featured in this solo exhibition on display in the Link Gallery.

The opening reception for “Ellijay and Elsewhere – Paintings by Ed Cahill” will be held at Gilmer Arts on Friday November 9, 2018 from 5 – 7pm.

Ed Cahill was raised in the Midwest and introduced to painting and drawing at a young age from his mother who was a professional illustrator. He lived in Akron, Ohio, and took classes at Akron’s Art Institute as a child. He graduated from Firestone HS in 1974 and was accepted to Carnegie-Mellon University majoring in both painting and drawing, graduating with a BFA in 1977.

Ed was a professional graphic designer for twenty years, managed his own ad agency and painted part time. While living in Yardley, Pennsylvania for ten years he was represented by the Golden Door Gallery in New Hope. Since 1996 he has lived in Marietta, Georgia. He is now represented by the Frameworks Gallery in Marietta and Lake Burton Gallery in Calhoun Georgia.

In 2012 he began to participate in Plein Air events here and accross the Southeast winning over a dozen awards including seven first place finishes.

Ed now teaches Oil painting and Plein Air at Kennesaw State University. He also gives workshops and private lessons both locally and nationally.

 Artist’s Statement

“I’ve painted all my life—It’s a lifestyle for me. Since college my concentration has been on representational art—mostly landscapes. In 2010 I took some classes that ignited a love for Plein Air painting that dominates my work today. My interests in the local landscape, history and architecture are reflected in my work. The ability to express the light and mood of an instant and capture a view of almost anything is my passion. With Plein Air there is a reverence for nature and rural beauty but also modern life. The best examples celebrate the often overlooked around us. It is, as they say—a way of seeing.”
